St. Nicholas parish church

Our parish church in Damüls lies at 1429 m and towers above the "church village". With its late medieval wall paintings, its figural decorations and its solitary location on the church hill, it is one of the highlights of Vorarlberg's art history.

The Gothic church with its baroque belfry is dedicated to St. Nicholas. Built in 1392, it was rebuilt in 1484 and baroqueized at the turn of the 17th and 18th centuries. The ceiling painting in the nave shows various scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary, framed by several figures of saints. Frescoes from the 15th century depict the Passion of Christ on the north wall. The Last Judgement is depicted on the chancel arch. The high altar dates back to 1733. The God the Father, two entablature angels and Michael the Archangel are from the former early Baroque high altar from around 1630.
