For over 20 years now the holding association of ski lifts has been working hard on achieving a harmonious balance between nature, environment and development of the Alps for the leisure and tourism industry. The “Umweltforum” (Environmental Forum) was founded in 1988 for this purpose.

The Umweltforum’s aim is to cooperate with a variety of organizations in order to prematurely identify potentially negative effects on the Alps’ fragile ecosystem, water conservancy, public health, forestry, agriculture, the landscape, spatial planning and act on them.

Objectives of the Umweltforum

The Austrian Alps are a fragile environment that provides habitat to endemic plants and animals. On the other hand the Alps are also recreational space and outdoor playground for people in search of adventure and beautiful nature. The demands made on this ecosystem are high and the only solution is a sustainable development that aims to meet human needs while preserving the environment so that these needs can be met not only in the present, but also for future generations.  

With this objective in mind, a core goal was defined that ensures a sensitive development of the Alps with regard to the ecosystem in general, and water management, forestry, agriculture, and the overall appearance of the landscape in special.
