For a long time the Austrian lifts have been dealing with the theme of climatic change. Already in the early 1980ies they have not only reacted, but also acted and recognized the correctness and timeliness of investments in snow making facilities.

The high investments have paid off especially during the last season. In the 2007/08 winter season alone 127 million euros have been invested in modernizing existing snow making facilities and in building new ones.
This shows also in the areas with snow-making facilities: some 59% of all Austrian slopes can be covered with artificial snow if necessary.
Cost Comparison of Snow Making - A new snow making machine costs as much as a BMW of the 3 series.
- Example ski lift for children (200m of length, 50m of width, 1 hectare of slope surface, snow height of 80cm): a snow quantity of 8,000m³ is needed and this costs 12,000 Euros per year.

Comparison of Energy Demand for Snow Making - A snow making facility for 200 hectares of slopes uses up as much energy as 4 two-way flights into the Carribean with 270 passengers each.
