But then everything came different!
On August 8, 2009, the local council together with Vorarlberg’s power stations decided to foster this project and take it to the next step. At this point almost all of Damüls’ citizens had warmed up to the project and were looking forward to this new heating system. It didn’t take long for the contracts to be signed. At this point the biomass plant had reached a 95% approval rating among the population.
With no more objections standing in the way of the biomass plant, work was started immediately. For the realization of this project Damüls found a strong partner in VKW (Vorarlberg Power Plants), the province's largest energy provider.
Tourism is a very important industry in Damüls and without healthy nature there will be no tourists. We are proud of our biomass plant as it uses agricultural, forest, urban and industrial residues and waste to produce heat and electricity with a very limited effect on the environment. It is yet another proof for our community’s green thinking.
Damüls is officially classified as health resort and thanks to its clean and invigorating country air an ideal destination for people with respiratory ailments. Thanks to our biomass heating plant we managed to reduce CO2 emission by an incredible 85 percent.
In addition we use local resources to cut back our carbon footprint.
We are all proud of the Damüls Biomass Heating Plant and wholeheartedly support the efforts of the Austrian Biomass Association.
