Thermal use of biomass is the oldest form to win energy. Wood as fuel is a regenerative and substantial way to use an energy source that is unlimited. The finiteness of fossil resources and the greenhouse effect have made wood as fuel socially acceptable again. Wood causes relatively little emissions and shows an almost balanced CO2 balance. Emissions are further reduced thanks to the in-built condensation plant.

Wood is available regionally, transport ways are short and safe (if compared to oil catastrophes caused by accidents of oil tankers or the cleaning of the tankers on the open sea).

Heating in the Cycle of Nature
If you heat with wood, you heat with the cycle of nature. Burning of wood sets as much CO2 free as the trees have absorbed in their growing process. The same amount of CO2 is emitted if the wood rots unused. Wood is thus a CO2-neutral energy source. Unlike other fossil energy sources it does not contribute to the greenhouse effect.

Advantages for the Region
Biomass is a local energy source. It is stored sun energy, regional and sufficiently available. Thanks to the Damüls Biomass Plant some 600,000 litres of oil and 400,000 kWH of electricity are saved and replaced by 12,000m³ of wood. There are no long transport ways and supply is guaranteed. The use of wood is economically valuable for agriculture and forestry and for connected lines of business as well as for plant building. Use of biomass secures jobs. Invested money does not flow to big oil groups, but stays locally.
